The College of William & Mary in Virginia is seeking recommendations on its new mascot. While the athletic teams are referred to as "The Tribe," the college is open to ideas that may or may not resemble the nickname.
Over 400 nominations have been submitted and reportedly range from a feathered horse to an asparagus stalk. The nominator of the asparagus has argued that when served with cheese, the stalk represents the school's colors.
Do you have any ideas for a potential mascot? What are your favorite college mascots?

This is unfortunate, because "Tribe" is synonymous with the history of the Hampton Roads area. The story of Pocohontas was right there in Jamestown, just miles from the W&M Campus.
The Indian tribes which W&M bases its proud tradition no longer exist, therefore, they can't get a tribe of indians to sign off on something similar to a man clad in feathers, a flaming spear, facepaint on horseback.
Let's be real here. If W&M was a big time player in Division I, bringing in all sorts of money, they wouldn't have been put on this offensive name list.
The fact here is that W&M is a proud, historic institution which puts academics first and has to waste their time on this bogus inclusion on the "offensive mascot" list.

Experience in multiple sports is great for a developing youth. However, success breeds confidence. Bottom line should be life lessons learned.
