Princeton announced yesterday that Chris Bates will become head coach of its men's lacrosse program and replace Hall of Fame coach Bill Tierney who surprised the lacrosse world by accepting a job as head coach at Denver earlier this month. Bates, a Dartmouth graduate*, coached against Tierney during his 10 year position as head coach at Drexel. As an educator, umpire/official, ex college/professional athlete, and past coach I believe it is our top job to guarentee our athletes recognize it is education first and athletic success second.
