The Delaware Senate is expected to vote next week on a bill that would make betting on sports legal in the state. The state's House of Representatives passed the bill last Friday by a 30-4 margin.
The governor said he plans to sign the bill, which would bring an expected $55 million in tax revenue to the state, if it is passed by the legislator. Delaware has projected a $778 million shortfall in the state's fiscal 2010 budget.
While the bill allows for betting on single games, the state supreme court could limit its scope to allow for parlay betting only. The court has refused to weigh in on the matter until a bill is passed.
