It's a hot day in Oklahoma City. Fans are doing what they can to stay cool!

DAY 2 REWIND

Day 2 of the WCWS is in the books. A record crowd of 8,323 fans were on hand for today's session. The old record was 8,230 (Session 3, 2008 Texas A&M def. La.-Louisiana, 2-1; Arizona State def. UCLA, 4-0).

Saturday is elimination day. The games are Georgia vs. Missouri at 11 a.m. (CT) ESPN, and Arizona vs. Alabama at 1 p.m. (CT) on ESPN.

Friday's games

Florida 1, Michigan 0: Megan Bush homered and Stacey Nelson threw her second straight shutout to lead Florida past Michigan. Nelson allowed only a single up the middle to Bree Evans to lead off the fourth inning. She threw 71 pitches, and all but 14 were strikes.

Washington 1, Arizona State 0 - eight innings: The Huskies knocked off defending champion Arizona State in a battle of Pac-10 teams. Morgan Stuart singled home the winning run and Danielle Lawrie didn't walk a batter and retired 15 straight at one point for the win.

Today's moment

Washington's Morgan Stuart singled home the winning run to lead the Huskies past defending champion Arizona State 1-0 in eight innings.

Can you feel the heat?

It's a hot day in Oklahoma City. Sunscreen is a must and floppy hats are the accessories of choice for fans. At 7:30 p.m. (local time) it's still 81 degrees ... but much cooler in the shade. Saturday will be warmer.

The gates opened at 5 p.m. (local time) and fans poured into the stadium. The first 1,000 fans received WCWS key chains.

DAY 1 REWIND

The first day of the WCWS is in the books. Session 1 attendance Thursday was 6,093 - the second-highest total ever. Friday's games are at 6 and 8 p.m. (ET) on ESPN2.

The games

Florida 3, Arizona 0: Francesca Enea and Megan Bush homered and Stacey Nelson threw a two-hitter against the nation's top scoring offense as top-seeded Florida beat Arizona in the opening round game.

Washington 3, Georgia 1: Freshman Niki Williams hit her first home run in three months, and national player of the year Danielle Lawrie threw a six-hitter to lead third-seeded Washington win over Georgia.

Michigan 6, Alabama 1: Amanda Chidester homered and Teddi Ewing had three hits and two RBIs as Michigan knocked off Alabama in its first game at the World Series since claiming the title in 2005.

Arizona State 7, Missouri 3: Jessica Mapes and Taylor Haro each had four base hits as the Sun Devils used a record 13 singles to beat Missouri.

Coolest thing I've seen so far

After each of the opening round games the teams sign autographs and take pictures with the fans before leaving the stadium. After every game there are tons of kids and adults lined up with posters in hand.

It was cool to see the student-athletes take time (even when the lost the game) to talk with the fans and thank them for coming out.

Former student-athlete talks about the WCWS

I had a chance to speak with softball player Kelly Kretschman while she signed autographs at Fan Fest.

Kretschman is an Olympic gold medalist and former student-athlete. At Alabama, she was a Four-time NFCA All-American, member of the All-Women's College World Series Team (2000). During her freshman season she led the NCAA in homeruns (25) and slugging percentage. She graduated in 2001.

Sitting in center field with Missouri fans

Here's the view from center field. There's not a bad seat in the house. Those metal bleachers were about 15 degrees warmer then the rest of the stadium.

WCWS notebook

The weather is great. The smell around the stadium is a mix of fresh air and sunscreen. Lemonade seems to be the drink of choice for folks.

For only the second time in WCWS history, no team from California is the field.

There's a great crowd on hand for the opening games. Washington had a small, but boisterous crowd for their game. Lots of Missouri fans ... they're easy to spot in the yellow shirts.

ESPN has cameras everywhere.

After the games, fans can get autographs from the student-athletes. The Bulldogs stayed out for 10 minutes signing posters for fans. Pretty cool stuff, since they lost to Washington. There's a photo in the gallery.

Missouri's players warmed up by juggling balls in a group. Check out the photo in the gallery.

Washington (making its 9th trip to the WCWS) improved to 9-4 this season versus teams in the WCWS field.

The morning session had the second-highest attendance ever - 6,093.

Does anyone know if they are flipping teams to other brackets like in years past?

In your twit you post gametime as noon, espn has it as 1pm ET. I turned on ESPN and no game. I wonder what the east coast game time is for the start of the tournament. Also anyone twitting about starting times should keep in mind the nation wide and possibly out of this country interest and try to be more specific on the timezones posted.

Thanks

Thanks MWM for pointing out the mistake. It's been corrected. All game times are local (Central time).

Does anyone know the name of the songs being played on the big screen during team features? One of the songs talks about being somebody or something like that?
