Baseball bats, Swedish hockey student-athletes and big college football weekend -
posted by: Howard Smith

  • Bats in college baseball are a popular discussion topic. The debate usually focuses on whether wood bats should replace the traditional metal bats. No matter how you feel on this subject, it appears that metal bats are here to stay, and now, the NCAA Baseball Research Panel has recommended changes to testing regulations. The new approach will take into account the length of the bat and is a better measure of performance.
  • This will be a big weekend of college football with three marquee games taking place between a pair of ranked FBS teams: No. 1 ranked Oklahoma versus fifth-ranked Texas; 17th-ranked Oklahoma State visiting number three Missouri; and number four LSU at 11th-ranked Florida. Which game are you most pumped for?
  • Forgotten among all these "sexy" matchups is a Big 10 clash between two underrated squads. Twenty-third-ranked Michigan State visits undefeated Northwestern in what could end up being an important game to help decide the Big 10 race and Rose Bowl representative at the end of the season.
  • Speaking under-the-radar games this weekend, how about the Division III clash between perennial powerhouse and current No.1 Mount Union hosting fourth-ranked Capital? Any chance of an upset in this game?
  • Be sure to follow us all weekend long from South Carolina State and Claflin!
