• Watch out Kenyon swimming, the Methodist women's golf program just won its 11th consecutive national championship. The Monarchs have a long way to go before they catch the water-dwellers, but their dominance on the links is still quite impressive. One year after winning the championship by an all-divisions record 88 strokes, Methodist finished ahead of DePauw by 39 strokes to win it all again.
• On the men's side, St. John's (Minnesota) repeated as national champion, coming from behind on the final day of competition to finish ahead of Southwestern (Texas) and St. John Fisher. The individual national champion was Scott Harris, Jr. from St. John Fisher, who actually won a junior college championship in 2005.
• The Hamilton women's lacrosse program brought home the college's first national championship in any sport yesterday, defeating Franklin & Marshall, 13-6. Sarah Brey tallied five goals in the championship and was named the tournament's most valuable player.
• We didn't mention this during the National Championships Festival, but St. Edward's softball player Lisa Paul is actually the granddaughter of presidential candidate Ron Paul. We documented the creativity of some softball cheers last week, but every time Paul comes to the plate, her teammates chant "Hail to the Chief." Now that's a good one.
• Nearly 2,600 sixth-graders from the Columbus area joined together at Ohio State last week for the fourth-annual Columbus City Schools Baseball Day. Students had to meet academic and attendance benchmarks to earn the trip to the land of Buckeyes, and as a reward, were able to take in the Buffalo-Ohio State baseball game after being honored. The kids got a pretty good game, as the Buckeyes rallied from an 11-run deficit to win 14-13.
