• Because the men's national semifinal games were played yesterday, today's drink features behind-the-scenes notes from San Antonio. There was such good stuff happening yesterday in Tampa, however, that Kat Krtnick's post gives a comprehensive look at the women's event before tonight's games. Make sure to give it a read.
• There are four restaurants designated as team gathering spots here in San Antonio, and I've eaten at two of them. Yesterday, I had lunch with some excited Tar Heel fans at Pat O'Brien's, and our $10 covered unlimited burgers, grilled chicken and bread pudding while live music played in the background. About a half-hour before I arrived, Senator John Edwards was hanging out with his kids in the Tar Heel establishment.
• Pat O'Brien's likely won't be much fun tonight, but Rita's on the River will be because Kansas fans have never been happier. I had a taco salad at Rita's the other day and will likely return for some chips and guacamole tonight.
• Everyone saw how well Memphis played last night, but how crazy was the Tiger defense? They had two guys on Kevin Love every time he touched the ball and collapsed on the lane whenever someone penetrated. The Bruins never really had a chance.

• After the first game, I went down to the Memphis locker room. Outside, Chris Douglas-Roberts and Derrick Rose were waiting for Joey Dorsey on a golf cart. CDR began complaining about how long it was taking Dorsey to get out of the locker room for the press conference, and a couple minutes later, Dorsey emerged with a bag of chips and said "Man, was I hungry."
• Even if Memphis loses, I credit Greg Johnson with victory in our foul-shooting debate from last week. Memphis shot nearly 90 percent from the line yesterday, erasing any doubts that a poor free-throw shooting team can't win a national championship. I never saw this happening - it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But the Tigers have picked the right time to turn it on from the stripe. After the game, I spoke with Chance McGrady, who says he and his teammates are relaxed and laughed at the notion that free-throw shooting would ever be an Achilles heel (listen to podcast).
• Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway was in the locker room after the game, wearing a shirt with the Memphis "M" and every player's name on it. The former Tiger star had some nice things to say about this year's team (listen to podcast).
• UCLA coach Ben Howland answered questions about the loss, and he's clearly heartbroken. Do you think it gets harder to lose each year?
• Memphis improved to 38-1 with the victory - the most wins ever.
• Kansas jumped out to a 40-12 lead on North Carolina yesterday, and Jayhawk fans got louder with each bucket while the powder blue in the stands turned shades of crimson. Eventually UNC got back in the game, but Kansas was just too good last night.
• I sat behind a couple of women from Kansas, both of whom lived and died with each possession. I asked them to explain "Rock Chalk Jayhawk," since admittedly, I've never understood it. They told us that the Lawrence campus sits on a hill consisting of chalky rock, and hence, the phrase was born.
• Before yesterday's games, I was hanging out at the Big Dance, and was there in time for Kid Rock's concert. Today, NCAA.com's Kristen Jacob will be spending time at Hoop City and will return to the Big Dance, where country start Taylor Swift takes the stage at 5:15.
