• It wasn't an upset, but the tournament opened with a solid game between Xavier and Georgia yesterday. It was a valiant effort by the Bulldogs, but maybe they should have played a warm-up game to get them ready for the Musketeers?

• Having a major conference team as a No. 14 seed did raise a few questions, however. If the Bulldogs had made a deep run in the tournament, would we have called them Cinderellas?

How about Belmont? Almost fellas, almost. Any other thoughts on yesterday's action? Predictions for today?

Amherst will continue its quest for a second straight national championship tonight, as the Division III Men's Basketball Championship continues in Salem, Virginia. The Lord Jeffs will take on Ursinus in one national semifinal, while Hope and Washington-St. Louis square off in the other.

• The Division III women will also get back on the court tonight, as the national semifinals of that tournament commence in Springfield, Massachusetts. Messiah and Oglethorpe play in one game and Howard Payne takes on Wisconsin-Whitewater in the other. Howard Payne is a perfect 31-0 this season and is looking for its first national title.

• Iowa holds a close lead over Nebraska and Iowa State after one day of competition at the Division I Wrestling Championships. You might be surprised to find out that Cornell is tied with Penn State in ninth place.

• Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh has got himself in quite a pickle this weekend. The Cardinal men's basketball team will play Marquette in the second round of the NCAA tournament - Harbaugh's sister Joani is married to Marquette head coach Tom Crean. Who does he root for?

• Earlier this week, the Academy of Art University announced it will join the Division II Pacific West Conference. Jamie Williams, who played 12 seasons in the NFL, is the university's director of athletics.
