I am tired of the BCS. It is sad that the champion is based on people's opinions. I think in the future I am only going to watch college basketball. FANS WANT A PLAYOFF! ESPN's fan poll...88% want a playoff!! COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS LOOSING ITS LUSTER!

Recently I was shocked to read how poor the graduation ratios are for many of the teams appearing in the BCS Bowl series.

Schools like Georgia, Ohio State, LSU and Oklahoma appear to be more interested in winning football games than they do having real scholar athletes!

Imagine if these schools were held to reasonable graduation rates in order to play football.

Forget about bowl games, they would be lucky to not finish at the bottom of division 1A.

I once read in Sports Illustrated a story about college football. It was a story recounting the early years of the sport, and how it developed as time passed. The story recounted how one of the early presidents at Notre Dame commented on how intercollegiate athletics was designed to be a diversion from the rigors of academia for the student.

College sports in general and college football in particular is not supposed to be a money-generating machine for an institution. It is not supposed to entertain the "fan," but rather is supposed to be a tool a student-athlete can utilize to get a quality education.

In all of the time I have spent on college campuses, I have yet to hear one student say there should be a playoff system for college football. But then, maybe I have been spending too much time over by the library.

I take issue with Mr. Larkin’s comments of Jan 8th. I disagree with his thought that college football has lost its luster. I believe most fans are simply viewing it through hazy glasses. Television and the fan should stop trying to make college athletics what they want it to be. They should learn to take it as it is.

I heard one sports writer speak of how the BCS Championship game took too long because of the timeouts for moving the chains after a 1st down. He never mentioned the endless commercials that extended the game at least 30 to 60 minutes for the sake of a buck.

My thought is for the fan to take off the hazy glasses. Stop trying to change a good thing. Learn to accept the competition for the satisfaction it provides the student-athlete. Because that is who it is meant to be for in the first place.

Maybe this young man will be the next Michael Jordan but if they do not make the proper plan up front they won't make it to the end game.
