When Mount Union meets Wisconsin-Whitewater in the Division III Football Championship game on Saturday in Salem, Virginia, it will mark the third straight year that the Purple Raiders and the Warhawks have matched up in the title game. Only one other time in NCAA football championship history (all divisions) have the same two teams advanced to the championship game three straight years. In Division I (Football Championship Subdivision), Youngstown State and Marshall met each other in 1991, 1992 and 1993 with Youngstown winning the national titles in 1991 and 1993 and Marshall winning in 1992. Also of interest ...of the six football teams competing for a national title this weekend in the three divisions, four (Appalachian State, Northwest Missouri State, Mount Union and Wisconsin-Whitewater) are making their third straight championship game appearance. Appalachian State and Mount Union are each trying to win a third consecutive title.
