Wow, I never realized how much technology would affect recruiting and coaching. I understand why a coach, if they are kind of out of the technology loop would be having a problem keeping up with new recruits if they did not know how to use the tools at hand.. Either way that is a funny strip.

I also never imagined that technology, such as e-mail and text messaging would affect recruiting in collegiate athletics. In this day and age, with nearly everyone having a cell phone with text messaging, it just made sense for recruiting to turn to text messaging. It is quick, easy, and convenient, and allows for quick things to be said in which a phone call is not necessary for. Though through this comic strip, it is easy to see how an older coach who is not current with technology could fall behind in the recruiting "arms race."
With the recent ban on text messaging by coaches and recruiters, I feel that it was a necessary thing. I easily see how it could affect a high school athlete who was still in the process of being recruited. If he/she was a high-profile athlete, one would assume that the athlete would receive numerous text messages in a day. This could lead to a burden upon the athlete and/or their family to pay extra fees, bills, etc.
I feel that text message recruiting was an interesting time in collegiate sports, not necessarily a good OR bad thing, but definitely interesting. Following the ban, I for one am very curious to see which turn recruiting will take next.
