Desiree Guenther: New Haven Soccer Back In Top 25 -
posted by: Josh

Desiree Guenther discusses New Haven’s last week of action on the soccer field. The Chargers are currently ranked among the nation’s top 25 Division II programs.

Yes, it has been awhile, but before we track back…

First and foremost, are a few things that contributed to Wednesday’s greatness:

Mo, commonly seen in the most flattering red goal keeper attire (not just on the field, but at many events around campus) has earned ECAC Div II Defensive Player of the Week. Good job Mo! Keep up that fitness. From the vortex, she provides confidence and security for our team. Just watch the number 8 increase as her shutouts will continue.

Next, we have found our way back into the National top 25 rankings. Not that we focus all our attention here, but it is an encouraging written confirmation that we are on the right track.

Third, it’s another day we get to travel as a team filled with personalities, talent, humor and unique habits. We continue to make the story that we can always share and call our own.

There are a few guest appearances from afar joining us at the game vs. C.W. Post. Claire’s parents from Northern Ireland, my parents from San Diego, CA, and Eileen’s father surprised her coming from Ireland as well. As smart as she is…she had no idea!!

The bus isn’t as large today - tight quarters, but the music is still playing, we’re still singing and the laughs will always be a giveaway….we’re up to something…

As we begin to close in on the end of our conference games, it is also the heart of midterms. Study, soccer, distraction. Study, soccer, distraction. We try to keep things interesting, and stay focused at the same time.

2:30 pm- get off bus at C.W. Post
Weather is warm and grass is damp from humidity (west coast parents brought the warmth, thank goodness!)
2:45pm- finish taping and other pre-game prep
2:52pm- warm up
3:25pm- announcements
3:28pm- BF motivation…Incredibly Inspiring!
3:30pm- kick off
5:10 pm tied 0-0
5:35pm double overtime and still 0-0
New Haven 28 shots, C.W. Post 9 shots
We created leverage, we were stronger- just didn’t get the job done.
6pm- showered and visited with parents and other fans that loyally support us!
6:30 pm- bus departed C.W. Post
8:30 pm arrived back to UNH
8:35pm- BF circle time

We are not happy with a tie, but the game is now over and we’ll focus on Saturday, vs. NYIT (New York Institute of Technology).

Backing up a few steps, last Saturday we defeated Kutztown at their Keystone Field, 1-0. The wind blew hard, but we were still able to get the job done. Nice 12 hour day together…I surely wouldn’t have it any other way!

The grapevine tells us that MacKenzie Bear should be back in action tomorrow at practice…a long awaited day!

Rain, rain, stay away, please come another day…far away.

It's good to see that New Haven is back in the top 25. Desiree seems to be a very good student-athlete, on and off the field. She sets out time for her studies and puts her best effort forward when participating in soccer. She also manages to set aside time to have fun.

For a student-athlete to be truly successful at what he or she does, it requires hard work, good time management, and the ability to prioritize. Desiree seems to have these abilities. An athlete must give their all to the sport that he or she participates in. An athlete must also work hard to make sure that same is done in the classroom.

Desi! What a good idea for you to be doing this blog. I know it gets hard to write that long sometimes, but keep UNH in the limelight. Stay Classy, San Diego!

This has been a real ride...E ticket stuff.
BF and all have been another source of entertainment as well as inspiration for this old guy.
Hope we all keep in touch for years to come or at least until the Sox get another chance.
